On this day 8/8/1969, The photo session for the cover of The Beatles ‘Abbey Road’ album took place on the crossing outside Abbey Road studios. Photographer Iain McMillan, balanced on a step-ladder in the middle of the road took six shots of John, Ringo, Paul, and George walking across the zebra crossing while a policeman held up the traffic. The band then returned to the studio and recorded overdubs on ‘The End’, ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ and ‘Oh! Darling’.

Collins was behind the wheel in a car accident in 1986 that killed his girlfriend and left him paralyzed from the waist down. He died on 23rd January 1990 aged 37.

1946, Born on this day, Bon Scott, vocals, AC/DC, (1980 UK No.36 single ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ and 1980 UK No.1 & US No.14 album ‘Back in Black’ sold over 10 million copies). Scott was found dead in the backseat of a friend’s car on 20th February 1980. The coroner’s report stated he had ‘drunk himself to death’.
